Teen Titans Go! #6 — comic book review

This is not Teen Titans. This is not even Tween Titans. It’s a mistake.

This is not Teen Titans. This is not even Tween Titans. This is a mistake.

Which DC executive’s idea was it to put the word “Teen” in the title of a comic book and make it appeal to people half their age? Putting this comic book under the Teen Titans umbrella brings a certain level of expectation, given that these heroes are aged 13 – 19 and appeal to that audience with an equal balance of humour and gravitas. The old TV show proved that, the comic books proved that, but for some reason – God knows what – someone at DC had the “brainwave” of using the Teen Titans title and characters to make something that only really works for people aged, maybe… six-and-a-half to nine-and-a-half?

It’s not even a disappointment. It’s more than that. It’s patronising and insulting that DC thought this would work. And the thing is, this is based on a TV series! There’s a Teen Titans Go! TV series that’s exactly like this, despite the whole concept of what that is. I award DC no points for this. Everybody who expected to see a Teen Titans comic book in this product is now stupider for having read it.
