(Link) Chris Chibnall to take over Doctor Who in 2017?

A lot of Doctor Who fans noticed the unusually conclusive nature of the latest episode, Steven Moffat’s The Time of the Doctor. For a writer so popular/infamous for sustaining storylines over multiple seasons, The Time of the Doctor has been noted for its definite ending, while also concluding the storyline of River Song, his most long lasting character, in a way that directly bookends the final episode Moffat wrote before becoming Head Writer, Forest of the Dead – which established a specific future adventure this episode turned-out to be. The episode ends with the caption “And they lived happily ever after”. Recent comments Moffat made about approaching each Christmas special as his potential last episode, plus the full-circle for his tenure on Doctor Who, has lead many to believe that next 2016’s thirty-sixth season will be his last.

Now, Bleeding Cool is reporting that The Husbands of River Song was indeed to be the final episode written by Moffat, who’s now holding on for a final thirteen episodes while his successor, Chris Chibnall, becomes available. Chibnall has previous showrunning experience with spin-off Torchwood, created by Moffat’s predecessor, Russell T. Davies. Chibnall also wrote the Doctor Who episodes 42 for season twenty-nine, The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood for season thirty-one, Pond Life (a mini-episode prologue to season thirty-three), Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three for season thirty-three and P.S., an animatic epilogue for season thirty-three.
