Goosebumps is based on R. L. Stein’s novella series Goosebumps. The first feature attempt in 1998 was to be directed by Tim Burton, but wasn’t produced as Burton couldn’t find a screenplay he liked. In 2008, Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski were hired and wrote the first draft. Alexander and Karazewski decided not to adapt any one novella in the series, feeling they were too short to be a substantial feature-length screenplay.
In order to set-up a film in-which every monster exists together, Goosebumps became a fake biopic, in-which Stein’s writings become real, and the Goosebumps monsters are trapped in the novellas. On 16th September 2010, Coming Soon reported Carl Elsworth was hired to write the second draft. On 13th January 2012, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Columbia wanted a page one rewrite from Darren Lemke. His Goosebumps screenplay is now available to read from… Wiki Leaks.
