Sony has announced that Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will be released 5th July 2019.
Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s first trailer premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live! yesterday, with a British trailer also published on Marvel UK’s YouTube channel.
Star Tom Holland debuted as Spider-Man – alias Peter Parker – in Captain America: Civil War, and has signed a six-picture deal to appear in three Spider-Man standalone films and three ensemble films.
With Captain America: Civil War already released, Holland’s two remaining ensemble films in his current contract is Avengers: Infinity War and the previously-titled Avengers: Infinity War — Part II.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is to be the first Spider-Man standalone of this deal, with Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 the second, and a potential Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 to be the third.
These six films are currently the extent of Holland’s deal with Sony/Disney, who’ll need to renew this contract if Holland is to appear as Spider-Man again.
July 2019 is currently the furthest-away release slot for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, with Avengers: Infinity War — Part II previously being the furthest away at May 2019.
This means it’s reasonable to assume that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is currently Marvel Studios’ minimum priority.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is to be released 7th July, and features Robert Downey Jr. reprising the role of Anthony “Iron Man” Stark as Parker’s mentor.
