Box Office Mojo reports that Avengers: Infinity War has now grossed over $1.9B and is on track to gross $2B, becoming only the 4th film to do so. Already, it’s the highest grossing film not to have made $2B. The $2B line was first crossed by Avatar (2009), which was followed by Titanic (1997) during its 2012 rerelease. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) is the most recent film to have crossed the line. It looks like Avengers: Infinity War will soon be joining them some time this week, following 10 years of build up and (clearly successful) marketing campaigns that became viral enough to burst the Internet. The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have its sceptics, but the numbers don’t lie: the general public very much want it to continue. Marvel Studios and all their work isn’t a gimmick.
Avengers: Infinity War is now playing and stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Holland, Paul Bettany, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie and Don Cheadle as the Avengers, with Josh Brolin as Thanos.
The Avengers are currently appearing in the Avengers vol. 8. The Infinity War story line is now available to read as a collected edition.
